5. Show Leadership that Contributes to Effective Teaching and Learning


The House system is an important feature of Hornby's school culture. It promotes the schools CARR values - Commitment, Achievement, Resilience and Respect. Hornby's Athletic's Day at the start of the year introduces the students to this culture and the idea of giving things a go, participating as part of a team, trying to reach goals and showing good sportsmanship. The above photo is LEWIS house winning the House Chant Competition. You can see me in the fore ground with my blue wig and outfit on.

1/12/14 - HHS staff Meeting- Learning Team Strategic Goals (nicknamed the Lifestyles Group) Health, Home Ec and Pe Department brainstormed how our three subjects fit into the whole school strategic plans

3. Demonstrate Commitment to Bicultural Partnership in Aotearoa New Zealand



(demonstrate respect for the heritages, languages and cultures of both partners to the Treaty of    Waitangi )


- Took part in the learning of the school Haka during Term 4
- learnt the school waiata while in Japan to sing at farewell party

2. Demonstrate Commitment to Promoting the Well-being of all Akonga




Three mornings a week HHS runs the CARR Cafe. This allows students a place to hangout on the early cold mornings, engage in conversation and have a filling breakfast, all in a safe environment .
